A Drug-Free Approach to Back Pain Recovery

Bay Shore chiropractic back pain treatmentChiropractic is centered on the philosophy of allowing your body to naturally heal through spinal adjustments and lifestyle changes that promote overall health. For Dr. Selzer, this involves working to restore your body's natural functioning to prevent the need for medications or surgical treatments. We find that many of our Bay Shore patients are relieved to find a natural answer for their health conditions.

One benefit of chiropractic is that it helps people minimize or even eliminate the use of drug treatments. Medications are commonly issued to people who have back pain. This is such a serious concern that the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) issued a press release stating that opioid (painkiller) risks overshadow the advantages when administered for back pain.

Some of the most well-known narcotics, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, include hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), morphine, and codeine. Figures provided by the AAN mention the fact that about half of the patients taking these types of substances for a period of three months are still taking them five years later. This can further complicate the problem of back pain and recovery, particularly if an opiate dependency arises.

Compare that to chiropractic which incorporates natural healing and the advantages are obvious. While a drug might be helpful at briefly relieving the discomfort of a health problem, it's not a solution to the problem. Drugs can't fix your injured spine; it will only conceal the pain.

Dr. Selzer will first examine you to get to the root of your back problems and then work with you to address the spinal interference -- without the need for risky drugs.

If you're ready for pain relief, naturally, give our Bay Shore office a call at (631) 665-3714 to make an appointment with Dr. Selzer.
