At All Island Chiropractic, we offer various therapeutic modalities to help our patients overcome anything from chronic pain to accident-related injuries. Active release technique or ART is a highly effective treatment method where our provider uses their hands to detect adhesions in the muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments, and nerves. Once located, our specialist will isolate the area while the patient actively performs various movements.

How Do Active Release Techniques Work?

Injuries can cause adhesions or scar tissue to build up in the soft tissues. When this occurs, the blood supply decreases, and the soft tissue becomes weaker and shorter. This limits the function and range of motion of any muscles and joints involved. Scar tissue build up can cause significant pain and cause nerves to become entrapped. ART helps get to the root of the problem, offering quick results and lasting pain relief. During your ART session, your physical therapist will locate the afflicted area and apply pressure as you move a particular body part. Tension and motion are continuously applied as you or the therapist positions your body part to shorten and lengthen the muscle. This treatment continues until you feel a release. Active release techniques can effectively treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Repetitive Strain Injuries
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Accident-Related Injuries
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Post-Operative Scarring
